Japan's Opposition Leader Rules Out Stepping Down - WSJ.com
During Mr. Ozawa's press conference Wednesday, the DPJ head criticized the arrest as an "abuse of power," coming as it did ahead of the election season.
"At a time when the Lower House elections could come at any moment, I cannot but help regard the arrest as abnormal and as political and legal abuse of prosecutorial power," he said.
Mr. Ozawa denied the accusations against his secretary, saying that Mr. Okubo could have easily avoided such a charge by changing the recipient entity of the money to a DPJ branch if he had regarded it as a corporate donation.
