バイデン大統領肝煎りの経済対策、インフラ投資計画をめぐっては、当初、政権側が8年で240兆円規模を投入する案を発表しましたが、予算規模と、財源となる法人税の引き上げに反対する野党・共和党との協議が難航し、政権側は与野党の議員でつくる超党派のグループを通じて、妥協点を模索してきました。
これについてバイデン大統領は24日、超党派のグループと合意に達し、8年で1兆2000億ドル、日本円で130兆円規模の新たな案をまとめたと発表しました。
バイデン大統領は「重要なのはどちらもが、望みどおりとはいかなかったことだ」と述べ、与野党の対立が深まるアメリカ議会で互いが妥協して合意に達したことの重要性を強調しました。
新たな案は、予算の対象を道路や橋といった伝統的なインフラ整備に集中させるべきだとしてきた共和党の主張を取り入れる内容で、政権側としては議会での承認に近づくことを優先した形です。
ただ、予算規模が当初の案の半分程度になっていることや、法人税の引き上げも含まれていないことから、今度は民主党内で反発の声が上がっていて、法案成立までにはさらなる曲折も予想されます。
