トランプ前大統領は26日、中西部オハイオ州でことし1月の退任後初めてとなる大規模な集会を開きました。
この中でトランプ氏は「去年の大統領選挙で私たちは負けなかった」と述べ選挙で不正が行われたとする従来の主張を繰り返しました。
そのうえで「決して降伏しない。たたかいは始まったばかりだ」と述べ、来年の中間選挙で議会上下両院の多数派を奪還することをめざして政治活動を活発化させる考えを示しました。
会場には去年の選挙期間中の集会と変わらない、数千人規模の支持者が集まり、共和党支持者の間での根強い人気をうかがわせました。
また、集会でトランプ氏は中間選挙に向け、トランプ氏に批判的な地元選出の下院議員の対立候補として、自身の元側近を支持する姿勢を強調しました。
トランプ氏としては自身に批判的な議員には厳しい姿勢で臨むとのメッセージを送った形です。
トランプ氏は3年後の大統領選挙への立候補には言及しませんでしたが、集会を再開することで存在感を示し、自身の立候補について可能性を探る狙いもあるとみられています。
