The incentive structure of government is different than the rest of society.

In a society (without government subsidies or bailouts) failure is punished automatically by the market.
Fail to serve others, or do so unprofitably, and your economic livelihood is pressured.
Not so with the government.

When the government fails, there are immediate cries for more money and power. Government wants to be rewarded for its failures!
This is why government MUST be very limited. Remove the limits and you end up paying more & more for failures.
After failing miserably during covid, the UN (which isn't our government) wants more "emergency" powers whenever there's a "global shock."

Instead of hiding in shame, the UN wants to be rewarded for failure.
