This week, Fed Chairman Jerome Powell was asked if he would step down if President Trump asked him to resign. Powell answered “No.” The law does not permit the president to fire the Fed chairman.

今週、ジェローム・パウエルFRB議長は、トランプ大統領が辞任を求めたら辞任するかと問われた。パウエル議長は「いいえ」と答えた。法律では大統領がFRB議長を解任することを認めていない。
しかし、パウエル氏は、そもそも連邦準備制度が違憲であるとは言及しなかった。金利を操作し、偽造紙幣を発行する独占銀行を設立する権限は連邦政府に与えられたことは一度もない。
したがって、大きな問題は、大統領とFRB議長のどちらが他方に対してより大きな権限を持っているかということではありません。
問題は、連邦準備制度がそもそも存在すべきではないということだ。
