スペイン北東部のカタルーニャ州の議会でスペインからの一方的な独立宣言が可決されたことを受けて検察は３０日、州首相を解任されたプチデモン氏や州政府の幹部らについて、国家への反逆行為や人々を扇動した罪などで起訴する方針を明らかにしました。首都マドリードで記者会見した検事総長は、プチデモン氏や幹部に対して、身柄は拘束しないものの、裁判所への召喚に応じるよう求めました。
プチデモン氏は、独立宣言の翌日に、地元の街、ジローナで熱烈な歓迎を受けたあと、動静が伝えられていませんでしたが、３０日、複数のメディアが、政府筋の話としてプチデモン氏がスペインを離れ、ベルギーの首都ブリュッセルにいると一斉に報じました。理由についてはプチデモン氏自身が近く記者会見で明らかにするとも伝えられていてその内容や今後の動向に注目が集まっています。
一方、スペイン政府は州議会を解散し、１２月２１日に選挙を行うことを決めましたが、一方的な独立宣言の採決で賛成票を投じ、プチデモン氏も所属する政党は３０日、今後の対応を協議した結果、政府の決定に従って選挙に参加する方針を明らかにしました。

Days before, hundreds of thousands had marched in support of the push for secession. An unrelenting Madrid, unwilling to let any of this happen, is ready to prevent Catalonia from becoming independent. Will it come to the use of military force?
