イスラエル軍は、４日間に及ぶガザ地区への軍事作戦で、イスラム原理主義組織ハマスのロケット弾の発射地点など１０００か所を超える空爆を行い、これまでに女性や子どもを含む９６人が死亡し、けが人は７００人に上っています。
ガザ地区では、１１日、イスラム教の集団礼拝が行われましたが、町なかは閑散としていて、住民は「イスラエルは市民と武装勢力を区別していない。ガザの日常は失われてしまった」と話していました。
一方、イスラエルのネタニヤフ首相は１１日、テレビ演説を行い、アメリカのオバマ大統領などと電話で話したことを明らかにしたうえで、「国際社会の圧力でわれわれを攻撃するテロリストへの空爆をやめることはない」と述べ、数日のうちに空爆の規模をさらに拡大させる方針を示しました。
また、地上部隊の投入の可能性については、「すべての選択肢について準備をしている」と述べ、ハマス側をけん制しました。
しかし、ガザ地区からのロケット弾による攻撃は１１日も続き、イスラエル軍の兵士に数人のけが人もでていて、さらなる緊張の高まりを見せています。
