Former Afghan president Hamid Karzai has offered his condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Sadako Ogata, the former UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
He wrote on Twitter that "as Japan's special reconstruction representative to Afghanistan, Madam Ogata worked with great dignity and grace in providing reconstruction assistance and scholarships."
