アメリカのウクライナ疑惑で、議会下院では13日、司法委員会がトランプ大統領をみずからの政治的利益のためにウクライナに圧力をかけた「権力乱用」と議会による疑惑の調査を妨害した「議会妨害」で弾劾訴追する決議案を可決し、本会議に送りました。

これを受けて17日、下院本会議の審議の内容や日程を協議する議事規則委員会が開かれ、下院の主導権を握る民主党は18日に本会議を開催し、司法委員会で可決された弾劾訴追の決議案を採決することを目指しています。

一方で、共和党は「政治的な動機による弾劾訴追だ」と反発し、委員会では、与野党の議員が激しく意見を対立させています。

民主党の提案する日程通りに運べば、決議案は18日中にも下院本会議で可決される見通しで、これによりトランプ大統領が訴追され上院での弾劾裁判に向けた手続きが進むことになります。

アメリカのトランプ大統領は17日、民主党のペロシ下院議長に書簡を送り、「民主党が推し進めた党派色の強い弾劾運動に最も強いことばで抗議する。アメリカの歴史上、前例のない権力乱用だ」と強く反発しています。

全部で６枚にも及ぶ書簡の中でトランプ大統領は、決議案のうち権力乱用については、「根拠のない想像の産物だ」としたほか、議会妨害は、「ばかげていて危険だ」などと強く批判しています。

そのうえで、「弾劾訴追は違法で、党派争いによるクーデターにすぎない。有権者はそれをよくわかっており、きっと来年の選挙であなたと民主党議員の責任を問うだろう」として弾劾訴追は民主党の政治的な思惑によるものだと強調しました。

また、トランプ大統領は１７日、ホワイトハウスで記者団に対しても「弾劾はでっちあげだ。議会上院に移ることを楽しみにしている。われわれは議会下院では弁護士も証人も何も認められていなかった。完全にまがいものだ」と述べ、民主党による議会下院での弾劾訴追に向けた手続きを改めて非難しました。

US President Donald Trump has sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to lash out the impeachment process being pushed ahead by the Democrats.

The lengthy, six-page letter is dated Tuesday. The following day, the Democrats hope to vote in favor of two articles of impeachment against Trump in the House of Representatives.

Trump started the letter, "I write to express my strongest and most powerful protest against the partisan impeachment crusade being pursued by the Democrats."

He said the first article of impeachment, "Abuse of Power," is "a baseless invention of your imagination."

As for the second article, "Obstruction of Congress," he called it, "preposterous and dangerous."

He described the impeachment as "nothing more than an illegal, partisan attempted coup." He added that the voters are wise, and that they will hold Pelosi and the Democrats responsible in the 2020 election.

Trump also told reporters on the same day at the White House that, "the whole impeachment thing is a hoax."

He said he looks forward to the Senate trial. He criticized the impeachment process in the House, saying his side was not entitled to lawyers, witnesses, or anything else.
