フランスのマクロン政権は、財政再建のため年金制度を改革し公務員への優遇措置を改めようとしていますが、これに反対する労働組合が今月５日からストライキを始め、この２週間、パリの地下鉄やバス、それに全国の電車の運行本数が大幅に減っています。
多くの人が移動するクリスマス休暇を控え、政府は19日、事態の打開に向けて組合側と交渉を行いました。
交渉でのやり取りは明らかにされていませんが、交渉のあと組合側は妥協点を見いだせなかったことを明らかにしました。
政府は年明けに再び交渉を行うとしていますが、最大の労働組合は今後もストライキを続けると表明し、多くの人が移動するクリスマス休暇も公共交通機関の運休が続く見通しとなりました。
フランス国鉄は今月23日と24日の電車の運行について、全国で通常の半分足らずになると発表し、利用客が多い時期だけに混乱が懸念されます。
またストライキは年をまたいで続く見通しで、経済への影響がさらに広がることも予想されます。

Transport strikes in France are set to continue over the Christmas holidays after talks between the government and labor unions failed to break a deadlock over a planned overhaul of the pension system.
The administration of President Emmanuel Macron aims to reform the country's pension system to restore the financial balance.
Unions have been on strike since December 5, disrupting subways and buses in Paris and trains across the country for two weeks.
The government held negotiations with unions on Thursday hoping for a breakthrough ahead of the Christmas holidays, when many people travel.
The government says there will be another round of talks early next year. But the largest union announced it will continue to stage strikes.
The national rail company says the number of trains will be reduced nationwide to nearly half of the usual levels on December 23 and 24.
Strikes are expected to continue into the new year, raising fears they will further impact the economy.
