アメリカでは、ワクチンの接種率が伸び悩んでいて、バイデン大統領はワクチンの有効性を訴えて国民に接種を促すとともに、従業員が100人以上の企業に対して接種を義務づけるとしています。
こうした中、南部テキサス州の野党・共和党のアボット知事は11日、企業が従業員に接種を義務づけることを禁止するなどとする命令を出しました。
アボット知事は「バイデン政権は企業に接種の義務化を強要しているが、これは経済の回復を妨げ、宗教上、健康上の理由から接種していない多くの人に恐怖を与えている」などとしています。
州知事の命令に対し、アメリカン航空などテキサス州に拠点を置く企業からは従業員に接種を促す方針は変えないなどと反発の声も出ています。
アメリカでは、与党・民主党の州知事がワクチン接種の義務化を進める一方で、野党・共和党の州知事は反対する動きを見せるなど、接種の是非をめぐる政治的な対立が深まっています。
これについてホワイトハウスのサキ報道官は12日「われわれは法律の施行に向けた取り組みを続けていく。バイデン大統領にはその法的権限がある。反対しようと試みる州も含めて全米で進めていく」と述べました。
そのうえで、テキサス州の動きについて「市民の健康よりも政治を優先させている」として厳しく批判しました。
